Chocolate Mulch

Few landscaping materials pull a yard together quite like a deep, rich layer of chocolate brown mulch. The warm, dark tone creates a striking contrast against green plants, bright blooms, and light-colored stone, the kind of polished look that makes a yard appear intentionally designed. At Crystal Landscape Supplies, we carry a high-quality selection of chocolate bark mulch available by the cubic yard, with landscape supply delivery services reaching customers across Northern Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska.

What Makes Chocolate Mulch a Top Choice

Beyond its visual appeal, dark chocolate mulch delivers real functional value for both residential gardens and commercial landscapes. The deep brown coloring, achieved through a consistent dyeing process, holds well against UV fading, so your beds stay looking sharp well into the season. And like any quality organic mulch, it works behind the scenes to improve your soil and protect your plants.

Here's what it does for your landscape:

Retains moisture in the soil, reducing how often you need to water
Suppresses weed growth by blocking light at ground level
Regulates soil temperature through heat and cold, a real advantage in Colorado's climate swings
Breaks down gradually to enrich the soil with organic matter
Provides a clean, defined look that frames plants and beds with intention

Color, Coverage & Application

The deep brown tone of this mulch works particularly well alongside warm-toned flagstone, red brick, and natural wood borders. It also complements dark soil and evergreen plantings naturally, with no color clash, just a cohesive look. Some customers describe it as having subtle cherry-chocolate mulch undertones, which vary by batch and lighting and tend to deepen further after watering.

For most garden beds and landscaping applications, a 2- to 3-inch layer is recommended. This depth is sufficient to retain moisture and discourage weeds without compacting the root zone. Not sure how much you need? Use our landscape measurements guide to calculate cubic yardage before you order.
